PlayStation 5 Cronus Zen setup
Running a Cronus Zen on PS5 is well-trodden ground, and NBA 2K27 does not change the hardware side of it. The one PlayStation-specific quirk is the console's periodic controller authentication, which the Zen handles automatically as long as your firmware is current.
PlayStation 5 notes
Use the console's front USB port
Front ports are the most consistently reliable for the Zen on PS5. If the device power-cycles mid-session, try the other front port before assuming the Zen is faulty.
Keep the DualSense wired to the Zen
Plug the DualSense into the Zen with a data cable rather than pairing it over Bluetooth. Wired removes a variance source and sidesteps the controller sleeping mid-game.
Turn off the DualSense power-save timeout
In system settings, set the controller idle timeout to its longest option. A controller that naps between possessions will make the script look like it stopped working.
Loading Splash 2K27 onto the Zen
Identical on every console. Do this part on a computer once, then unplug and forget about it.
- 1
Install Zen Studio on a computer
Download Zen Studio from the official Cronus site and install it on a Windows or macOS machine. This is the only part of the process that needs a computer, and you only do it when you want to load or update a script.
Watch out: Use the official download. Zen Studio builds mirrored on random forums are how people end up with bricked devices.
- 2
Update the Zen firmware
Connect the Zen to the computer with a data-capable USB cable, open Zen Studio, and let it flash the current firmware. Scripts are compiled against a firmware generation — running a two-year-old firmware is the single most common cause of "the script does nothing".
Watch out: A charge-only USB cable will power the Zen but will not carry data. If the device never appears in Zen Studio, swap the cable first.
- 3
Load Splash 2K27 into a slot
Open the .gpc file you downloaded, then use Program Device to write it to one of the Zen's script slots. Leave a slot free if you want to keep a previous version around to fall back on after a patch.
- 4
Wire the Zen between controller and console
The Zen sits in the middle: your console feeds the Zen through its input port, and your controller connects to the Zen. Get this backwards and the console will simply not see a controller.
Watch out: Wired is the reliable path. Wireless setups add a pairing layer and a few milliseconds of variance, which is exactly what you do not want on a timing script.
- 5
Calibrate for your setup
Run the calibration routine once for your build and your display. Release windows shift with display latency, so a calibration done on a 120Hz gaming monitor does not transfer to a living-room TV in a picture mode with processing enabled.
Watch out: Put your TV in Game Mode before calibrating. Nothing else on this list will save you from 80ms of post-processing lag.
- 6
Verify before you queue
Take the script into a practice environment first and confirm the mods respond the way you expect. Two minutes in a controlled setting beats discovering a bad calibration in the middle of a Rec game.
